Prep Minor Rules
Playing rules will be according to the Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken Rule Book, including all Pitching and Minimum Play time regulation with the following exception for the Prep Minor League.


  • Pitching machines will not be used.
  • All teams will bat the entire line-up. There will be NO compensation for unbalanced rosters. Teams with 12 players will bat 12. Teams with 9 players will bat 9. There will be NO automatic outs or any other balancing efforts. All players present will bat.
  • A team will only bat once through the lineup per inning. If the team has batted around and there are fewer than 3 outs with the last batter in the lineup, the teams will switch sides as soon as the last player’s time at bat is ended.
  • If three outs come before the end of the lineup, the next person at bat will bat to start the next inning. You do NOT start over at the top of the lineup.
  • Each team will score no more than 6 runs per inning. As soon as a team’s 6th run scores, teams will switch sides.
  • Each player MUST play a minimum of 2 defensive innings.
  • 10 players will play at a time on defense. (4 outfielders).
  • Each game will be 6 innings or 1 and a half hours. No new inning after an hour and a half. Drop dead (play immediately ends) after an hour and 45 minutes.
  • If an inning ends due to the drop dead rule, the final score shall be determined by the team that was ahead at the end of previous completed inning.
  • There is a 15 run mercy rule. If the 4th inning is completed and a team is ahead by 15 or more runs, the game is over.  There is a 10 run rule after 5 complete innings.
  • Pitching mound is 40 feet.
  • Players will pitch. If a player walks two consecutive batters and/or three batters in one inning (the third batter will walk), the coach must come in and finish pitching the remainder of that inning. The coach must pitch from the rubber and no under-hand tossing allowed. The same player can pitch again the next inning if the coach so chooses. 
  • A hit batsman does not count as a walk.
  • Specific Pitch Count rules outlined in pitch count limitaitons must be followed. 
  • Free defensive substitution is allowed.
  • No stealing is allowed.
  • Once the ball reaches the infield, runners will no longer advance, regardless of whether the defense has actual possession of the ball.
  • Runners shall not advance on overthrow of catcher’s return to the pitcher.
  • It is highly advised that a coach be in place behind the plate to fetch passed balls to keep the catcher from having to chase down too many errant pitches.
  • Teams will NOT take infield practice prior to the game starting. No warming up the pitcher on the mound prior to the game. Also no warming up the pitcher on the mound prior to the game starting. With that said, you are welcome to do whatever warm up you like in the outfield and the pitcher is able to warm up on the mound once the team takes the field. Settlers has practice pitching mounds by each dugout and Fuller has practice mounds along the dugout side outfield fences.
  • Players are encouraged to slide at 2nd, 3rd, and home when a play is being made at that base on that base runner. A runner should be encouraged NOT to slide at first. Players will be warned if this happens.
  • No bunting.
  • A manager or coach will coach both 1st and 3rd base during the team’s time at bat.
  • For the first 3 games of the season, one coach may be on the field to help player alignment and proper defensive play.
